Hello! I had a great day today. Russell and I headed into town to pick up a pair of cushions we had ordered for our new flat. They were from Dwell (which I usually love) but they were a complete disappointment, on the website they were described as 'copper' and in real life they were drab and brown. Luckily enough they refunded the payment for me and we headed off to Habitat. I love habitat so much but their stuff can be quite pricey, I guess it's worth it for the quality though. They were having a 70% sale so I picked up this cute owl vase for £7.50 :
I love it and I think it'll go nice in our new bedroom. I've gone decorating mad as we have just bought our first property and it's a blank canvas. We have private let for 3 years which has been good but it's time for us to start lining our own pockets and have a place that we can make our own :)
I want our new place to be different. I really like the film Annie Hall and I like the style of furniture and furnishings in it so I think we'll try and go along those lines if we can. So far we have bought a 4 seater sofa and chair, a 4 seater table and chair set, a kingsize bed, a lamp, coasters, two vases and a set of 4 ice cream sundae glasses (a necessity if you're going to live with me!!) Everything has been bought on sale and half price or less so we really haven't had to spend a lot of money. I thought January would be a stressful time to start all of this but it's been quite the opposite as the shops have been quiet and full of sales.
I think I will have to wait until my next wage before I buy anything else as like everyone else Christmas has left me a bit skint. When I get paid I plan to buy more bits and bobs and it'll gradually build up until we have everything we need. I really liked the vase to the right - - > it's called Karina and again, from Habitat. I love pretty repeat patterns so I'm sure my home will be full of them. If anyone has any suggestions for websites / shops that sell similar items then please send them my way. I have been struggling to find interesting items. I've been mostly looking at Ikea, Habitat and Dwell. I really can't think of many other places which seems crazy but true?
Anyway, after Habitat I bought these two cute ice-cream coasters from Maia on Buchanan Street ( such a nice little shop full of wonderful nick naks and even better - it's also an ice-cream parlour!! hurry up Summer...) I know they're a bit tacky but I have garish taste, so be it. They were only £1.50 each, what girl could resist?!
Afterwards we headed to Bar Ten for a drink. Russell's new years resolution is to try new things, which I think is a great idea. It's fun as it means he's been eating different food, trying different beer etc.. which means we've been going to new places instead of our trusty favourites (always a good thing) So Russell ordered a 'Blue Moon' which is a fruity beer and it tasted delicious (from a non beer drinker - me) it must of been good. Bar Ten is on Mitchell Lane and they always play really good music.
They had a pin board with their favourite website and album of the month which is a nice idea. I know I said I am not going to have new years resolutions for 2011 but I have decided to make a conscious effort to take more photo's this year as I didn't document last year very well. I realised when I was looking through my photo album for last year that I had missed out big chunks of fun times which is a real shame, so it shall be sorted this year! I got a lomo camera from my friend at Christmas so it'll be fun using that (if i can remember how) and hopefully I'll get some interesting photos and effects out of it.
Anyway, that's enough for now. Thanks for reading, and again - send me any interiors websites / shop locations and hopefully I can add to my new flat collection. I move at the end of February so there's plenty of time :)
